About

History

In March of 2002, a small group of members of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Middleburg, Florida, met with our Pastor and representatives of the Missouri Synod Mission staff to discuss the possibility of starting a sister congregation in Starke, Florida. It was felt that Starke would be a good location for evangelistic purposes.
The Pastor and Elders of St. Peter’s, together with members who were interested in a church in the Starke area, decided to establish a “preaching station” in Starke. The Steffen family, who own and operate the KOA Campground in Starke, offered the use of the KOA Recreation Hall as a meeting place. All agreed to hold our first church service on Sunday, August 18, 2002, with twelve members in attendance.
By God’s grace having grown substantially in June, 2007, we were able to apply for our own charter in the name of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Starke. In August of 2007 we moved to 331 N. Church Street.
In January of 2010, we purchased 5 acres on NW 182nd Way and SR 16. In June of that year, we purchased 3 modular buildings.
After renovating the buildings, we have a chapel with seating for 80 people, an education/office building, and a fellowship hall with seating for 60 people. Our first service was held at our new facility on November 7th, 2010.
